I went on a trip this past weekend with two sportsman 500 hos and 2 reg sportsmans, THE HO"S walked all over my grizz, i was embarressed, the hos produce more hp, torque, and top speed. What can I do to get more umph out of my grizZ? even the sp500 regular models both beat me in a mile race, i got em off the line and through the mid range, but they caught me, the ho would take me flat out on any surface... any feedback? pipe? kn filter? jet kit?

Highlifter sells a performance kit for a Grizzly. You still will outdrag, or outmud a Sportsman though. Come to the darkside and get a Polaris.

I've read a couple of posts stating that the new HO is supposed to be faster then a Griz. I've never ridden with an HO before, so this all may be true. But I've ridden with a 99 SP500. In the power department there was no comparison. When it came to speed I out ran him in all restects, off the line, role on, top speed. Although we didn't race for a mile as you did. It seemed pretty clear after a couple of hundred yards he wasn't going to catch up. 4 Wheel ATV Action did a test on the 2001 Grizzly in the Sept. issue. They said that it was still the biggest and the baddest 4 stroke 4x4 ATV. As far as engine size and power. They ran the hell out of it and never had a single problem. Dirt Wheels did a 500cc shoot out. They ran a Rubicon, Sportsman, Magnum, and the Suzuki 500. They had alot of good things to say about the Polaris. However, the Sportsman malfunctioned. Two out of the last three articles I've read on the Sportsman there was something that malfunctioned. I've read 4 or 5 reviews on the Grizzly, none of them ever had anything malfunction. More power or less? Who cares, all things being equal, our Yamahas are clearly better built!

Have your Grizzly taked to the 4 stroke tech and they will bore it out to 750 cc!!
You will walk over the SP very easy!!
have you seen that 750cc Grizzly in Dirt Wheels before?

The Grizz is quite a machine but what about the 650 Kawasaki? the SP and the Grizz might get a beating now. Yeah the Grizz beats me off the line and pretty much through the whole thing but we raced all out down the flat rail road beds they go for miles, i did catch him. I was surprised. my SP goes to 58 or so quite quickly but will climb past 60 if you have to room.

The Grizz has lower gearing in high then the sp500 does. That is why you can ride all day and never need low. It also would seem to be a limiting factor to the top speed. I would bet you could go with taller tires and gain some speed up top. I have also read that the Grizz is limited on topend by a sensor in the spedo ?????. But in reality does it really matter if the sp500 is faster. The Grizz offers a much more sport like package the the sp does. Not to mention the reliability of the sp is highly questionable. Im shure that the HO package wont help matters much in that department (now they can smoke a belt even faster). Their is lots of mods available for the Grizz you just have to look around.

Better have the griz checked out cause I thought it was faster than a 00 Kodiak. My point being that my Kodiak is clearly faster than my buddies 00 yellow 5oo sp. It just has way more throttle response and pickup. Top end is closer, although don't know about the HO's. The sp is a nice bike, especially in mud but weak down steep hills w/ no engine brake in front wheels like yamaha's.

Well i have a 2000 Grizzly and have raced SP's and they have no show against me. I usally run 5-6 pounds of air in my tires, are your tires stock.
The bigger the tire they say the slower you go.
I do hear too that the new HO SP will keep up with a Grizz, but they say they both do 60 mph.
Bring em on, my grizz is getting hungry.
