Default 02 Scrambler X 400 Throttle problems

Hi. Just bought a scrambler X 400. Throttle seems to work fine until about mid range then dies right off, dosen't stall but dies off until Iback off the throttle again. Seems to do it mostly when it's cold and dosen't seem to havce the power it should. Helps when I pull the choke for a while. It sounds to me like it's running lean but not sure. Any ideas? Maybe float level. (anyone have the spec'c for the float?)
Thanks

could be something, dirt, water, etc.) in carb. could also be an air leak somewhere, like seal, gasket. try removing and cleaning carb first. dont forget to remove needle jet from center to be sure its open.

Depending on how hard it was ridden a compression check may be in order.

Thanks for your reply.
I don't think this machine has been rode much at all. It is still pretty tight all around. Even tighter than the 03 500 I bought. The throttle froze solid when I brought it home. Drove very cold weather for about 100 miles. Do you think it might have something to do with the ETC?
Thanks
