If you want the best go with Warn. if you want cheap go to harbor freight and get a $69 chicago electric winch. it should work ok and alot of people use them and have had good luck but I don't know what the life expectancy is on them. for a good deal on the Warn winches try www.rcsoffroad.com, they have pretty good prices and free shipping. I am going to get my father in law to buy a winch from harbor freight to install on his quad to use with the plow so he can trash the electric lift which doesn't work for crap.

I agree with silverbullet on Warn being the best On that note, I have a harbor freight electric winch that I use to load my quads onto the back of my truck. I've had it about 3 years now and it's still going strong I just bought a Champion winch for my z400 We will see how it works out. Champion is also the same winch, as Cabela and Superwinch. They just change it a little to give it their own look/specs

Picking the "best" winch is inviting a never ending argument (like which pickup is best or which ATV is the best). Any well known company like Warn or Ramsey or this one: http://www.milemarker.com/ will never let you down. The military uses the MileMarker winches so they can't be all bad. And even the cheapo Harbor Freight one will be just fine. You just need to do some 'fabricating' to get in installed.

I've got a Warn 12,000 pounder on my pickup - and it works fine. I've got a Ramsey 2500 on my ATV - and it works fine. So I say find your best price, pay your money, and love it...

I would also have to suggest Warn or Ramsey for being among the best. The Ramsey winches are usually a little bit more (from what I saw) so if money is a big factor then the Warn looks a lot better. I personally would not waste my time getting anything cheaper if you plan to put it to extreme use.

Rocky Mountain ATV has both.

I have the warn 2500. I got it on ebay. some have a mechanical brake as well. I got my mount and winch on ebay (seperately) for about $265 total. shop around. you could buy 5 or 6 $60 winches for the price of one warn or ramsey....just make sure you get the mount for your year and type of ATV unless you are "very good" at engineering and fabrication. Making a winch plate that "fits" is ok....but it better be able to hold the load because there is a lot of stored energy in a winch rope. Most mounts are only about $30 or so.
