700 EFI - Will not start
#1
Hello All
Bought a New 2004 700 EFI back in the fall and it has ran awesome until now.
Haven't had it running in a few weeks, so I thought I'd take it out for spin last night.
The Start up was fine, let it run for about 10 mintues as I was putting air in the tire. I could hear it sputtering a bit (which it has never done before), eventually it totally choked. Attempted on and off for the next hour and a half to start it, and it would not turn over although by the sounds of things the starter is functioning normally. I have lots of battery, and I only run premium in it...
Anyone have any thoughts before I start taking things apart???
First thought was Fouled Injectors?? It was put away with a full tank of gas though...
Haven't yanked the plugs yet, to see if black or not.
Anyone else has this problem??
thanks

ok....so the engine cranks but does not start?, or the engine simply doesn't turn over.? If the engine cranks but will not start I would look into fuel supply. Especially the fuel pump...mine puked kinda like the way yours is acting...run for 10 and then dies out...One quick easy way to tell if the pump is working is cycle the iginition on and off....It should run for about 2 seconds and stop each time the ign. is turned on.. You should hear the pump very easily...If you dont hear anything most likely its dead...If the engine doesnt turn over....thats a whole different story....could be, battery, solonoid, starter motor, hydrolocked cylinders from gas, oil, water..

Cranks fine.. Fuel pump...You know I hoping it might be something I could fix myself... EFI however is outta my league.
I even put half a bottle of Gas line anti-freeze in it, after it choked to see if that was case, but still nothing..
I know the exact noise your refering too in regards to the fuel pump...
I'll check that tonight...
I was hoping not to take it to the dealer..
Thanks

Well, I just got off the phone with my dealer
Sure enough... it is the fuel pump. He said they've had a few in the past month all with same problem. Bad run of fuel pumps
They have to order a new TANK, as the pump is internal.. Not the best design in view

My 700EFI's fuel pump went out after only 11miles on the odo. I was back in the woods riding with my wife and had to send her back to the house on her 700EFI to get my tow strap. easy way to figure it out is to listen for the fuel pump energizing when you turn the key on. the fuel pump is part of the fuel tank so to replace the pump you get a whole new tank. everything has been fine since.

Thanks for info..
Taking it to dealer is a pain.. He is in the middle of the city on the main intersection with no parking... let alone me in my truck and trailer..
Good to hear all is fine with your 700 now... and I consider myself lucky I wasn't out on the trail... as I would have had my 4 year old with me.. and the walk home would have been a little much with him on my shoulders!

Ya.. I am a newbie...
I actually read the posts almost everyday, but because I am what most would consider new to the sport.. I do not have alot to contribute, the information thus far on these posts have been excellent to say the least.
I have been planning to get my page set-up for pic's. We have a large Quad gang here in waterford, trying to organize big rides at least once a month. And we always take a ton of pictures. There will be a few published in the March issue of Ontario Snowmobiler Magazine.
This spring actually, we have a large ride going to the ultimate mud pit near Courtland, Ontario http://www.gopherdunes.com/, pretty amazing place, and with the Rail Trail system we have here, we never really have to drive on the Road.
I'll try and get some pic's up by the week-end
