most all the yrs were pretty good, but would go with 2000 and up, some of the features were nicer. 97 was not the ho motor and non-concentric drive.
they have a switch or button to turn on the awd, yes both front wheels drive
overall they are really good bikes. maybe a little heavy for big jumps, just sold my 2x4 500 last spring. had no problems with it and was a fun bike to ride.

1. What years are good and what years are bad?
The very best year Scramblers IMO are '01-'02. They have most of the upgrades that the '05 has (such as stainless braided brakes lines, upgraded brake lever/master cylinder, upgraded tie rod ends, upgraded steer post bearing) plus they still have the Fox rear shock. Polaris puts a cheaper rear shock on the '03 (or '04?) and up models in place of the Fox.
2. Is it push button 4x4 and is it true 4x4
Yes, there is a switch that lets you select between 2wd and AWD. Polaris has always been known for their TRUE four wheel drive.
3. How are they in snow?
Fun as hell. I had tons of fun with mine in the snow. It's fun to throw the thing around in 2wd until you get stuck. Then you just flick the switch into AWD and you're off.
4.Ground clearence?
The lowest point it in the rear. The sprocket/chain and brake rotor are the lowest point of the quad. I haven't had any serious issues with the ground clearance. When it came to deep ruts the sprocket and rotor just cut their way through the mud.
5.How are they in mud?
Take a look at my photo page. The Scrammies can tear it up! They aren't the best but they can do some damage.
6. How are they for jumping?
You can take them off some smaller jumps but you have to remeber, they are 570lbs. of 4x4 beast. They aren't really made for getting too crazy.
7. Top speed?
Anywhere from 62-65 MPH.
8. What do you think of them?
They are one of if not the best all around trail quad out there. I wish I could keep mine but I don't have the room. Plus I gotta pay the bills!
