Default Normal for Grizzly 660 to run a little rich???

I have a 05 Grizzly, and when I start it in the garage the exhaust smells like it's running fat. Is this normal? Might need adjustment, I ordered it brand new out of Ohio, and I'm at about 5000-6000 elev. in New Mexico. That might have something to do with it too. For the 20 hour service, is it worth taking it in, or should I do it myself? Hard to say if they check everything they say they do. Last time I had a new Yami ATV in for the first service they overfilled the oil by a mile!!!???.....Thanks

They come from the factory running rich. It's not all that hard to set the pilot- fuel mixture screw. It is located in a hard to get at place on the carb and is best done with a special tool- screw driver. It's done with the engine running and I can shoot you a link on how to do it if you're interested.

Here is a link for adjusting the carb http://ansley.net
The only way to make your rig water and mud friendly is to snorkle. Not much advice on here about it but check out Highlifter forums. Everything you need to know is there.

That was a dead link

And on the snorkle thing I'm not talking deep water or mud crossings.. I was having troubles in mud with standing water on top that was just over the running boards a bit. The machine heats up and makes a bunch of steam from water hitting the exhause pipes and the steam gets sucked in the intake, with the machine already running rich it chokes it out even worse making it mis and sputter.

i herd the grizzlies had a problem with that. it is because the intake is right above the engine, so when water hits it the intake sucks it all up. you can fix this by moving the intake with a snorkal kit to get the intake out of the was of the steam

The griz runs a little rich from the factory. Even if you snorkle it, that will not make the mixture work better. If it is rich and incoming air is displaced by steam that hinders combustion, then it will sputter. I had the exact same problem. Rejetting is the best way to fix it because the it isn't as sensitive. I bought a quad works kit with a K&N filter, prefilter and dyno jet kit. I highly recommend it because it really woke my grizzly right up. Since I rejetted, it hasn't even thought about sputtering in deep water. I take it up to the top of my 26" tires all the time and not one problem. It will also make the fuel mixture right for you elevation.
