Default Big guy on a Raptor.....need advise...

Alright so I'm about 225, 6'4'.

I've got a stock 660 Raptor motorwise...

I was riding yesterday down the shoulder of a country highway and was pacing a car (off the record!)

It was a bit windy, but I could still only get the top speed to be around 55-60 mph, top speed should be 70+. I am wondering if I could adjust something to make it run harder...or if I'm simply too fat for what it is designed for. It just seems that it won't pull hard enough about halfway up 5th gear. It was new when I bought it, and I've probably got 15-20 hours on it, maybe the valve train is due for adjusting??? As it sits now, I may as well put a 12 tooth on the front sprocket, I'll probably be able to go just as fast, and I'll have more power on the low end.

Anybody that has a suggestion please hit me with it. Pre-Thanks...

There is plenty you can do. I am 6'4 270 and mine will reach that speed in 300ft.Head winds can slow you down alot. Try removing the front fenders and try it again. It will amaze you how much wind drag the fenders create. Pm me if you want alot of info.

As a last resort you could try ducking down a bit insted of riding with your body upright to create less wind resistence also...
Oh and your bros truck is cool

Your due for a valve adjustment. The gearing may give you a little better top end but the stock exhaust and airbox are real chokers.

Yeah still on stock gearing actually...that was unclear. I've got the 12 tooth sitting in the shop, but I haven't got around to throwing it on yet. By the way, when going down a tooth in the front, does that require cutting the chain and taking a link out? Thats mainly what is holding me up...my style of riding I don't need to be doing 70 anyway....just would like to know that I can if I want.

Thanks guys, keep em coming please!

No, you won't need to cut the chain it will adjust to fit 12/40 gearing no problem. This makes a hell of a difference in take off speed and I have still be clocked at 67mph on a race radar gun. As said above though a pipe and intake kit make a world of difference to this bike. No lid, 170/175 jets and my GYTR exhaust system puts me in the 44hp range on the local dyno...not sure how accurate that is but definatly upp from33hp stock!

Cool, well this weekend that 13 tooth sprocket is either going to be turned into a really cool coaster, or maybe a ninja star...

Hopefully I won't have much trouble swapping them then.

Anyway I knew I should be around 70 mph completely stock like it basically is. The spark arrestor has long since been a shop decoration but I imagine that only makes about a 0.1 hp difference. So I was worried when some old guy passed me on the highway...I figured he was doing 60 tops...but I'm a big guy and had a big coat on while it was windy...so who knows...
