i would run the wheel spacers as long as you dont leave the ground more than one inch when jumping. there is no cheap alt. to wider a-arms and axle, i dont care what anyone says. put the spacers on if you want, but dont be surprised when one of your wheels come off after a landing a good size jump.

on the front,
i've seen some racers with spacers. they cause additional wear & stress on the ball joints and wheel bearings. additionally it adds more leverage to the shock, making it easier to bottom out. they also affect steering geomtry, adding more bump steer.
my opinion... skip them & save your money, it's not worth burning up your hard earned $$$ (on maintenance too) & delaying getting good components.
on the rear,
you can usually use spacers w/o problems, it just makes it slightly more likely that you may bend or break a stock axle when jumping hard.
if you get the $$ to do the front but not enough to put a good axle in, you can put spacers in the rear, and then save for an axle.... but don't widen the rear alone, the quad will not feel balanced in corners....
you'll be farther ahead just saving up for good gear.... run what you got for now.

3 of my friends raced 2 years of MX with spacers on them and took 2 years to bend an axle. And 2 out of the 300 are still using stock a-arms and havent bent ne thing, only one of them has broken one tie rod. And yes, they did hit jumps.
