I seem to have an electrical problem with my 2004 Polaris 5oo HO. I had just recently finished a local ride with a few friends when I noticed that my battery light was flashing, I then parked the machine and tried a restart with the key switch. nothing happened but the clicking of the cylinoid switch. AT that time i used the manual pull cord, she fired right up and ran as smooth as silk until either my fan cooler engaged or I turned on my lights at that point the engine just died completely, is there any advice that you can help me with to correct this problem without having to go to my local scam artitst's (DEALER). I would check all your battery connections first and look to make sure all your ground wires are tight. If the connections look ok then I would guess your battery is probably shot. Put a digital volt meter on the battery while it is shut off and it should be 12.6 volts. If it's not 12.6 volts, try charging the battery and trying that and if that doesn't work then I would buy a new battery.

 

Also check the breaker under the front hood ... it can overheat and fail.

 

What color is the case of your battery. Mine was white and the die quite often in the 2004.5 models. My dealer replaced mine with the new black colored one and all is fine. I wouldn't ride it at all. I jumped mine and rode it a little and it ended up frying the regulator too.

The flashing battery icon means that the voltage of the system is out of spec, either too high or too low.

I had the same problem white batt i had 3 miles on the machine and my batt was dead nowq have the black one no prob.

try seeing what the charging sys is putting out should be around 14 volts

 

I also had a problem with mine and it was a plug on the regulator that came loose. It is located under the front cover above the radiator. Just had to cut the tie wrap and give the wire a little more room and it has been fine since then.
