hey just joined the forum i just got done rebuilding a 84 200x the machine starts and runs fine the problem is when it gets warm the motor starts to tick it only does this when the motor gets warm usually after about 15 minutes of riding im thinking maybe the valves need to be adjusted but im not sure any help would be appreciated thanks!!

Ticking noises after warmup are always a sign for valve adjustment.
All other parts including the cam chain, piston pin, and rocker-to-cam contacts are not determined by engine temp.
The rocker-to-valve contacts are.
If a vavle adjustment doesn't fix the noise or if it goes away and comes back, you will need to replace your valves, maybe the rockers, and/or the head assembly because the valve seat areas are worn beyond there limits or the rocker arms are "shot".
If the valve seats are damaged, lapping the valves will correct it usually, but these heads weren't originally meant for this type of machine work and when you do it, the new seat will not last as long as the original seat because the wear coating used by the factory is gone.
Good Luck.
