Shortend Stock Muffler, Free HP!!!
#1
Hey all. I just took my stock muffler off my quad, i removed the baffle and spark arrester, drilled extra holes around the tip (youll see what i mean if you look at it, their is 4 1/4" Holes in it stock, i put about 10) then, i used masking tape to make a perfect circle around Just in front of the Second Mouning bracket, and then the same on the end leaving about 1/4" from the end. it removes about 3" total from the muffler. It made the quad a little louder then before, when i just had the baffle out, but wow! the quad pulls alot harder from top to bottem!! oh yea, i used a chop saw to make the cut perfect, then i welded around where i cut the two, good free mod oh yea, i went up a size on the mains.

Yup, People do this all the time with aftermarket pipes believe it or not. THat's how racers have the shorty silencers. Not on 2 strokes, but on the 4 strokes. It makes it really loud and gives you a decent power gain.

On the other hand though, yes reducing the back pressure of a STOCK muffler will probably make more power since they have huge backpressure so reducing some changes it from horrible to slightly better. Its like going from breathing through a straw to breathing through a straw with holes in it. Its lightly easier but your still breathing through a straw.
