custom grinded my 250 weights
#1
i got a set of S55 weights for my 250 and did a custom grind job on them and all i can say is wow! what a difference. it revs up higher now and when it kicks in its all wheelie. its lots mroe fun to ride. it was really easy to do, as long as u know what your doin. if u dont know what your doin dont touch them untill u find out. i messed it up at first but was still able to salvage it. instead of grinding a notch into it i made a flat spot. then i relized what i was doin adn grinded a dip into it. that holds the weights on the ramp or rollers or whatever there called and lets it rev up more and then kick in. i was drivin up to the house and tapped the gas and the front end came up. its great. lots mroe fun now.

thats what we did for the drag set up. and you're right they can be messed up quickly and even cause clutch imbalance. the set i ground was 2 stages, at about 2700 the bike would move and then would fully engage at 4150. what a holeshot! it would actually smoke the tires on concrete instead of wheely.

how would u do a two stage set? im thinkin about makin a drag set up with my extra violet and stock G weights. would u make a flat spot on the weights and then a little bit down the weight grind a dip into it? im sure this is wrong lol so let me know. thanks,

mine had a slight flat spot where the roller sat and let it slightly engage the belt. then had a quick ramp up to engage. this took some trial and error. also, start out with a slightly heavier set of weights than you want to end with, the weight comes off quick. are you using a weight stand?

i put a bolt through them then i set them in a vice to get them all even and tightened the bolt up nice and tight so they wouldnt move them i locked the sander on and flipped it over and went at it. i could tell where i was grinding by the sparks and used my fingers to tell which ones werent even. they came out pretty well. ive got my stock weights sittin around so im gonna try to make a set of high engagment weights out of those. and use a violet primary. its gonna hit hard i think. but im not gonna use it for normal riding. jsut for draggin those pesky warriors. so i should put a flat spot where the roller sits then a quick ramp up which will make it engage the belt then hold the revs at the ramp then roll up over it and then take off super hard for a nice holeshot?

pretty much, just dont make the dip to deep at first, its kinda hard to explain by writing it. what i first did was start out a little at a time and put them in and try them, then take'em out and grind, and then put'em back..well you get the picture. it just takes some time. it would be great if you had another clutch to experiment with.then you could play with one and ride on the other.
the clutch setup i had i just sold a while ago. we had the cooling fins machined off and lightened up, was reshimmed between the sheaves to run more belt clearance (also creates harder launch), cut weights and spring.
