I have heard some good things and some bad things about the 400ex. So what are some pros and cons about the 400ex.

Default 400ex pro and cons

Pros:
- The most durable and reliable sport quad you can buy
- Easy to maintain/upgrade
- Lots of upgrade parts available(new and used)
- Nice low end grunt, makes it easy to ride in the technical stuff
- Low center of gravity for nice handling

Cons:
- Short on power(stock) compared to the 450's
- Front shocks are mediocre compared to the 450's and '05 Z400's
- Air Cooling, some people say this is bad though I actually like it and never had a problem with it

Are there any shocks off of other stock quads that would mount right up to offer an upgrade?

i would have to agree i like the air cooling, the frount shocks arent bad, but slap a set of nice axis, pep, or elkas on it and WOW!

low on power...Throw a Full sparks X6 on it, the power gains from that pipe are unbeliveable, i would love to see a dyno of my bike, because i know it gained more then 4-5hp....

pro--

its one of the best wheelie bikes period
great breaks
as said indestrucitable

cons-

hard seat
no reverse
non rezzi shocks

the pros far out weigh the cons imho, thats why i got one!

I've got 450R front shocks on mine, you have to grind them a little bit to make them fit, but it's a great upgrade.

the 450r shocks seem nice, BUT for the price i would almost rather get a good set of tripple rate works rezzis, or better yet ZPS peps.

I haven`t had mine long but, lots of parts available, fun to ride only gripe I have is, as I get tired, it isn`t very comfortable. I could use footpegs down a couple inches. That could be cause I`m bigger and older though....**grin**
