Air screw on 400ex?!?! Couple questions
#1
Is this on the bottom of my carb? OK and another question i have a hmf pipe K&n airfilter 165 jet. How much and which way do i turn the air screw? And what will this do for me? thank you

i would put in a larger pilot jet like a 42 or so. with this in place i would start about 2.5 turns out from lightly seated. without the larger pilot in place, i would start around 3 turns out. it is a bronze colored screw on the bottom of the carb. it is near the idle adjustment. i would go smaller on the mainjet too.

On almost all 4 strokes, its a mixture or pilot screw...2 strokes have air screws. Turning it out, will make it richer, and turning in is leaner.
It only effects idle and up to 1/8 throttle.
The screw is the fine tuning for the pilot jet. Think of the jet as being the coarse adjustment, and the screw trims that , as a fine adjustment.
This article explains jetting, and has a procedure for adjusting the mixture screw.

By the way...wheres deepwoods? I think ive been there.
