I've often heard that you should shut off the fuel when hauling a quad. What is the purpose?

Although I haven’t experienced it yet, others have posted here concerning leaking fuel petcocks. Seems that if the fuel petcock is not turned off, the fuel can leak down in into the carbs and cylinder while just sitting still. No doubt it's worse if moving around in transport. I just wonder how it does that with the fuel tank lower than the carbs.

From the research I've done on the forum, I've found that kawi engineers designed the quad so that the praire's gas tank is pressurized 3psi. Do a search, several posts

i talked to someone with an arctic cat and he said that he left his gas on and went to a high altitude and unloaded it and it was seized.

If your carb lets fuel through it, like when its bounced around pretty good during transport, it could flow through and fill up your crankcase with fuel. Its happened to me, so I just shut it off.
