reving 400 auto

What makes you think it's a problem? Our 400's sound like they're revving high too, because they are.
I would guess that the 400's rev higher than the 500's because they HAVE to...
Now, if your belt is slipping, they may be revving higher than normal. It's too bad these things don't have tachs...

I'm guessing the auto's rev higher as they get going, but at 'speed' they ought to be about the same. Or not...?

The trans type is a CVT = Constant Velocity Transmission. Means the motor revs faster because the belt system keeps the motor in the power band of the engine at all speeds of the vehicle. Want it to not rev so much, get a spring set and modify the clutch timing.

The motors are alot different, on the 500 and the 400. The 400 doesnt have the low end torque the 500 does, so the clutch the cvt differently. The springs, weights and cam profile are different , and that keeps the motor running in the sweet spot. Its normal, and almost everyone comments on it, when they first ride the 400.
