Default Pawning my kids to afford race gas. Any Ideas?

I recently bought a 426EX with a 13:1 compression ration piston. I have to run 110 and at 5.60 a gallon its killing me, Is there anything I can do short of the whole works the decrease the CR. Are there thicker head gaskets I can run and will they make enough of a difference? If I change the piston will I have to rejet? Any other Ideas?

How bout running 110 octane fuel but getting it cheaper? Use toluene.... here's the link: Link

If you are dead set on lowering you CR i would suggest spending the ~$100 on a lower compression piston.

Two things the quad also has a Stage 1 cam and has been ported. will this be adversly effected by dropping the compression ratio. Second Have any of you tried toulene like Semms40oz suggested? Have you had any problems?

A stage 1 cam will work well with a lower CR as will the porting, of course you will lose HP but its gonna be a trade off between fuel price and HP.

Have you thought about using AV fuel? AV100 is 115 octane..........I'm not sure what the price per gallon is, but I'm sure it's cheaper than $5.60 per gallon.

$2.89 per gallon.... for that price i'd keep the 13:1 setup.... 94 octane pump gas is around ~$2.20 here.

It will probably go up^.
When i raced karts we used nitro pills to make the gas better. They pooled all the fuel and made everyone run the same gas so we would get heart pills and pop them in the tank.

They siphoned each tank pooled the gas then pumped it back in and painted the lid. So if you opened it you got disqualified. the NITRO pills would sit at the bottom and take just enough time to dissolve to get buy the check.

flynhi250r I used the toluene mix for many, many years.
Turbo's on the street are screwed when it comes to fuel. 99% of the time you can run around on 75 octane fuel. But then there is that 1% when you want to put 10 to 12 lbs of boost to it. The engine will rattle so bad you think you filling are going to come out of your teeth. I could not afford race fuel to drive my car around all the time so on Friday nights I would tip the can.
All is I can say is that it worked VERY well. So well in fact I was going to hook up a toluene injector in front of the compressor blade of the turbo. Never got the time though.

One word of advice. If you don't know how to read plugs for signs of detonation LEARN HOW or DON"T mess with mixing toluene. Once you find the correct mix, stick with it. To much toluene will slow the burn down too much and heat your engine and exhaust up. You will have two ways to go with this. Either bump the timing up or cut down on the mix. Either will work but in your case cut down on the mix to save money.

PS. It seemed like I got better fuel by mixing than the chart shows. Try about a 15% mix with premium and see if you have any detonation.

How much would doubling up on head gaskets help, or would this cause more problems than it would be worth?
