My dealer finished grinding weights and jetting today on my P700 for 6k-12k altitude. He took it out and raced it against a new Polaris 800 efi he has for sale. Took the 800 by 1 1/2 lengths in 100 yards. I would say the dyna CDI made the difference. He didn't give me times or top speed at the finish.

Wheelies good too, even with stock primary spring.

I have raced 2 800 efi's in 100 yard sand drags, one on loose dry sand and one on packed wet sand, and had the same results. It's hard to beat the kawa V-twin, expecially whith hop ups.

What profile did your dealer use for the weights they are very hard only a carbide wheel can grind them.

My dealer has a testing ground on the Paiute trail in Utah. Goes from 6k-12k in a relatively short distance. They take one of each brand and displacement, beat the heck out of it on that trail, then dynomometor each size and brand in their semi trailer. Keep on testing, grinding, jetting until they get the max performance for 6k-12k. They don't sell many bikes, so they are all about service.

Since they spend quit a bit on all of that, they are reticent to give out info. They hesitated to even tell me what size jets were in mine, but they did. I don't know what brand of clutch weights were used, cause their subcontractor machinist was working on the weights when I took the bike up to them. They did tell me in a round about way what size jets they put in. I know one thing: It's my bike and it runs like I stole it. I'm incrediblly alert (scared) since it can do its job better uphill than I can handle right now.....haven't been on a twisting trail ride with it yet, so need to get used to it. Going to Moab 4/15.
I asked him about running at Moab, 2k lower than jetted for, he said just don't run it wide open for an extended period and it will run good. They're closed Sun. and Mon.

They have the weights done in a machine shop, so I do believe they grind some grams off. He's a good guy and runs a tight ship, will be glad to talk to you. He knows his onions.

 

Took my '02 650P to Colorado and rode from 4K to 14K' elevation. Only mods I did was drill one and quarter inch holes in stock air box lid(8 holes total). Runs fine From -62' below sea level in California to 14K in CO. Just would'nt wheelie, or idle aboue 6K'. Ran on Mt. Shavano area for 8 days without any problems. Could run 69mph on fire roads up or down hauling extra weight. Food and packs, tents and such for our scout Troop 492. Only other quads that could keep up was a 700 and 800 EFI Polaris. Oh by the way the IRS quad (no Brute's) had trouble staying on the rocky fire roads at any speed above 40mph.
Everyone liked the SRA 650P for going fast!................again no Brute's in area at time.

 

That's an absolutely beautiful trail,I took it last year and saw 6 deer and 17 bull elk. I went with stock jets, and it ran pretty good, but I did notice a little power drop off at the top. When I go this year, I will drop a size.

 

handycap: Great trip for the kids. How did you all hold up at that altitude personally, setting up tents, etc.

69mph loaded up very impressive. Also 37mph in reverse over a hill! I know I would have crashed it.
