I've heard a lot about adding a block-off for the parking brake.

Can this be done without purchasing anything? I am pretty sure something is being sold that takes care of this, but would rather rig something up instead.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Why would you want to "rig" this? It will only cost you $10-$15 for the block off. It works and looks great.

Retro,

Perhaps "rig" was used for he lack of a better word.

In my brief examination of the rear brakes, it just looked like I could easily disengage (do away with) the parking brake without having to spend any $$'s.

I really just didn't want to go through the hassle of ordering the stuff, giving out the credit card info. over the net, and listening to my wife complain about how I am spending "more" money on the beast.

Really, $10-$15 is a lot less than I had expected it to be. I however still do not know what is involved with blocking the parking break.
I still would prefer to "rig" it if possible. The money really isn't the issue. However, if it is necessary, I will purchase the block-off.

So, has anyone done a do-it-yourself block-off? Can someone tell me what the procedure is? I don't even know where the block-off goes. Does it go on the brake caliper or does it go on the brake lever?

Brian I made my own block-off plate out of 1/4 inch alum. stock. To do it right you will need a milling machine to do the job of milling the center out so that you can put an o-ring to keep out the water and dirt.I did it at work one night in about 1 hr.I think it would be a pain to do it by hand.

Looks like I'll be checking out my service manual tonight. Thought it may have been an easier fix than it is turning out to be.

Thanks for the info. And no, I don't have access to a milling machine.

The parking brake block-off cover protects from dust/dirt entering the caliper assembly left by the opening of the removal of the parking brake assembly, That pin inside just pushes the pad against the rotor... Y could propably get away with using electrical tape but you would be changing that often... Spend the 15 bucks..
