I have a question about my raptor 660. When ever i take it out of first gear over a quater throttle it spits and sputters and backfires then dies. It ran great for a bout an hour, then it had some trouble idling, then it wouldnt idle at all. I have raplaced the plug hoping that my problem was from a fouled plug. I now know it was running rich bucause my pipe tip was turning black. Can anyone help me using their vast knowledge of atv's? I am only 15 and dont have alot of money, so if it is costly please tell me if there is any way to use my redneck engineuity. Thanks.

im gussing the bikes all stock? if so, then it sounds like you need to clean your carbs good, and adjust the airscreews, turn your airscreews out about 1/2 turn, then see if it gets any better, if it gets worse, go out.

Hey, guys, the signature block below usually tells us a lot about what the writer is riding.
Air screws can vibrate out of adjustment, but usually don't cause that drastic of a problem....and would usually come on gradually. Good to try and adjust them though.
Could be lots of things.
How long has the bike sat? Is the gas still good?
Is your air filter truly clean?
What did the plug look like that you replaced?
Is the parking brake shorting out? (should still idle OK)
How old is your FMF...is it coming apart inside and restricting?
Who did your jetting? done properly?
How about the carb throat boots...they are nortorious for leaking...are they secure?
Do you have an inline fuel filter? Is the gas flow to the carb OK?
Check ALL the easy and cheap stuff first, then tell us what you find out. Good Luck!

Spray some WD40 on the button that you press to set the parking break. Then work it in and out. If you notice that when the parking break is on and you rev the engine it will backfire. I think you might have dirt in that button.
