what pipe for 400ex?

All the different FMF's are good. I always run a quiet core, because I am willing to sacrifice a little power, to keep the sound down. Along with a muffler, venting the airbox lid (I like the EHS Racing lid) and a better air filter (UNI) will be a big help.
I have the PowerCore IV on the 400EX, the Ti 4 on the Z400, and the Factory 4 on the 450R. And, I run the PowerBomb header on all three bikes.

Another thing, with a completely stock EX except for filter, jets and airbox, is a header really worth it?

the header isnt worth the extra $200 rite now, but if you plan on modding your engine at all in the future it is worth it. i made the mistake of not getting the full system and now to get a header it is another $250 because they need to weld on a special adapter to make the header bolt up to my slip on.
