Horsepower????
#1
What is the horsepower on a stock 05 400ex? I know the horsepower on a 05 450R is around 48.
I believe I'm going to buy an 05 400ex yellow (because of reverse) I just hope I don't regret it and wish I got the 450R !!! Like when the Suzuki 400 and Yamaha are blowing me away!!!
(Sometimes I have my kids that is why reverse is so important or it would be the 450R hands down)

Obviously there are more factors to HP than the number of CC's the engine is, but I once read a rule of thumb for potential horsepower as being 1 HP for every 10 cc's on a 4 stroke and 2 hp for every 10 cc's on a 2 stroke.. Many of engines have proven this formula somewhat incorrect, but it's suprising to me how close it actually is.

Thanks I seen a review an TV before I wanted one and it said the 450R was in the 40's can't remember but it was high (it might of been a different quad)
Do you thank I will regret not getting the 450R? The main reason I'm getting one is speed (Quick acceleration) and wheelies. But when the wife ride's(her own) and both kid's want to go (ant often). I got to take it easy and if I get in a bad area it would be safer and easer to have reverse. But when I'm by myself or she's on the back I want to be able to RIPP A$$ and if I do some mods not have to worry about a stock quad passing me on the get go well maybe 660. I wish There was a kit to add reverse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I still have to ride both before I buy.

Here is a the latest atvconnection review and some dyno's of the project 450R quad with and without the HRC kit: https://atvconnection.com/atvconnect...y/Chat/hrc.cfm
If I didn't own a sport quad and was in the market today I would buy a 450R. I also go riding a lot with my family and haven't had any real problems not having reverse. Yes the 450R is a quicker quad than the 400EX stock or piped but with $500-$1000 you can make a 400EX run with the 450R(assuming you know what you're doing). It would be a question of if you are willing to tear into a new 400EX engine to mod it. Stock the power comes on much differently between these 2 quads.. the 400EX is a torquey engine where the 450R is a higher revving engine. When I rode around a 450R I would have sworn it was a 2 stroke. The 400EX is easier to ride slow, you can really lug it. But to me it sounds like you would be better off starting with a 450R.
