Head gasket leak
#1
Well guys it has finally happened. Over 5500 hard miles on my 2001 ds and she has a small head gasket leak just above the starter. I am debating wether I should run it next weekend in this 2hr long endurance race or if I should get it fixed. I just got my new 22" rear and 23" front itp holeshots and was kinda hoping to see how they perform. I could just run my outy and see how well I do with it. Its not a long race the track is a 12 mile course and it takes about a half hour to do 1 lap so I am guessing it is a technical track. It would be my first race on the ds competing with other atvs so it would have been neet to see how well she & I would do. What do you guys think I should do? I think it is just leaking outside the motor now because the oil looks clean with no signs of antifreeze in it. Let me know what you think. Thanks

go to your local gm dealership and buy some sealant tabs. there should be 5 in a pack. put one in a zip lock bag and crush it up and put it in your radiator. should fix your prob for now. did the same thing on a freinds bike and it worked just fine. no more leaks.

Are you just seeing some coolant on your cylinder after a ride? Is it enough to run all the way down to the frame or just enough to go down on the cylinder a bit? If you're just getting it on the cylinder than your lead is very minor and probably not a big deal to run it but, if you are getting coolant down to the frame, I don't know if I would risk it.

Its just a little drop on the starter so I am not to worried about it ,but it will need to be fixed sometime. Can you get those sealent tabs at a local autoparts store as well? thanks for the info.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but if that coolant were to leak the other way into your combustion chamber or crankcase, antifreeze will eat up your main bearings. This is the case with auto engines and maybe not with the ds650 so I might be wrong. Hope I'm wrong and didn't scare you.
