Default 800 Engine Blown

Well the title says it all. The story goes like this. About 3 weeks ago had taken the 800 for a ride with some friends flying down the trail and the 800 blows up. As I come to a complete stop the smoke just pours out. Well after cleaning the ride and getting it back home I notice the damage. There was a nice whole on the bottom of the engine as well as the top. Also on the top of the engine the started broke right off. After everybodys opinion and a little hesitation I take it to the dealer where I purchased the 800. Horns Outdoor in Bangor PA. I drop it off and I say " Please dont take your time on this" Well they didnt. I got a call 3 days later stating that the long block and starter was on order. 3 days later I picked up my 800 and it seems to be running fine. Said dealer stated that a rod must have blown through the engine. Overall I was not happy that the engine had blown but my dealerships customer support was outstanding. No questions asked or hesitations at all. I have my 27 XTR's coming in a few days I cant wait. The only other problems I have with the 800 is as followed...

1- Stock tires are horrible. Have about 8 plugs in the tires as we speak. Always pinch and make slices on the top and bottom of the impact point. What is the psi everybody is running at?

2- Since the engine was installed the EBS seems to grab a little to rough. Can this be installation related?

3- Front end sags a bit. I took off my plow mount and seems to steer better. Any suggestions

4- Steering is stiff and seems to bind. When I turn the wheels you can hear the stem bearing making noise. Anybody have these problems?

Other then that I love my 800. Any input about these situations would be great. Thanks again

man that sucks.

Glad you had a good dealer to work with you.

As far as the front end sagging. Their is a company around that makes a spacer that is threaded you can tighten up the front springs a little with that. Sorry I can't remember the name of the company.

I have the stock PSI in the tires. I haven't had any issues with holes yet. Knock on wood.

No issues with steering either.

I agree the tires are terrible, ive got 4 plugs in onehole and gashes all over the sidewalls.

My ebs seemed to be stiff when the bike was new, not so bad now.

I run 5lbs in my tires, i think thats recomended seems kinda soft to me.

Thank god for warranties and good dealers.

Speaking of that has polaris sent you info on an extended warranty yet? Its alot more expensive than 03 700 and 04 600.

Glad to here you got good response from the dealer. I can't answer your questions, except on the front end sag. Springs are springs, under compression they get weaker. Even sitting with no load on them...other than the current weight of the front end, they will start to sag. One thing to do is go to the Polaris site and get the parts manual for the MV. Get the heavy duty springs for the MV and put them on the front of your 800. I plan on doing it for my 700. The MV springs are rated something like 125-150 pounds, whereas your 800 springs are 75/110's. I felt the front end on the MV at the dealer, nice. With my winch and all the other crap on the front end, I'll probably swap to the heavy duty springs...

Dennis Kirk has some in their catalog.

thanks for the imput guys. Now I am debating on springs to get the progressive adjustables or the MV stock ones. About the same cost. Anybody have the EPI web site? Also on a side note.

A buddy of mine keeps shreading his belt on the 700. Year 04. Now I have read that the Dayco belt is the one to get. Question is Does the Dayco belt have that white string in the belt like the oem does? That seems to be the problem with the oem belt. You can see on the case that it wears a straight line into the case from it coming apart.

How much were they asking? I bought mine here last year for $620.00 for the 42 month extension. Looks like my current front diff replacement will probably have eaten that so it has probably paid for itself already.

They list 600cc and up for the same price:

Polaristar Plan

It's a genuine Polaristar Protection Plus plan.

Yes, it does if your talking about the threads between the plies on the V face. Seams to be mismatched as its not all the way around the belt.
I was wondering about this myself but it shows it on a picture of the belt too.
