Default HELP OVERHEATING 96 SPORTSMAN 500

Can anyone tell me how to check the fan (how to jump the terminals to turn it on) The overheat light keeps coming on after about 15 min. and I dont see or hear the fan activating. Dont know if it is the fan motor shot or the radiator temp switch? any info would be appriciated!!

Sounds like the sensor is bad.

I was worried about my wifes Magnum over heating, cause it's fan never came on as much as my Sportsmans. On the Magnum, you can reach the radiator sensor wires from the top. I unplugged them and shorted out the two terminals inside the plug in and the fan came on, so I knew the fan was working. I blew out the terminal and sprayed some WD40 into it.
Next I "borrowed" my wifes meat thermomater, removed the rad cap, inserted the thermo into the coolent and let the machine idle until it reached 185 degrees. Bingo...the fan came on....I don't know if the terminal was dirty, loose or what, but it's fixed now and it didn't cost a penny to do it!
