Default UNI Filter= Engine damage

Well my ds was popping and backfiring...thought it was the jetting till we took off the filter and found the tube running from filter to carb was full of dirt and dry mud... it seems that the uni filter coller that goes into the rubber boot with the clamp was not the correct size for the rubber boot and when u tightened the clamp is must had rinkled and had a small air leak that sucked in dirt and more dirt over time... i took the rubber tube that goes from filter to carb off cleaned it out and put it back on with the stock filter and now it runs perfect no back firing...but dont no how much dirt she sucked in but it did suck in some for sure i am very VERY mad with UNI right now after hearing how good they are....they cant even make a filter that fits right..sure K&N may let some dirt in but atleast they would fit right.

yes that is correct, but it just isnt any grease it is rim grease, I'm not exactly sure of the differance maybe it is heat resistant and gas resistant,

That sucks that your quad sucked in all that crap. After reading your post I had to run out and check mine. I have had a Uni filter since shortly after the break in period on my 04 DS that I bought in Nov of 03. There was nothing in my tube. I have personally had good luck with my Uni, but hate to hear any stories like yours. I don't know if you got a defect or what. My friends and I all run them with no probs. Hope you caught it before any damage was done. Good luck

How do your guys UNI filters fit....my stock filter fits nice and snug into the rubber boot...my UNI does not..... are your guys uni's a nice snug fit or is there some room for it to move around?

My mechanic builds race car motors and races, his group did a test on his race car, they race dirt tracks, with a K&N, stock, and i forget the other kind, they dont make filters for atv's, but i wish they would from what he said, he said the K&N let in alot of air, but let in alot of dust and dirt, made me think twice about mine

i run the uni and i imediately noticed that it did not fit real snug. i just wrapped the rim of the filter with electrical tape to make diameter larger. it tighted down perfect and i periodically check to make sure that the tube is clean and nothing is getting by. it has always been good. no problems with mine. i will stick with uni. dont ask me about works shocks though thats atotally different story.
