Well, the raptor is a great bike to play around on. But you're not going to go much further than that without spending money on modifications. Yes, it is great to ride in the sand, and is manageably smooth in the woods. However, depending on how often and how hard you ride, you're only going to make it about a year before stuff starts to break, need replaced or you just get bored.
The YFZ is a great buy for a number of reasons. It is designed to handle the abuse of hardcore racing. So theoretically, the parts should handle the abuse of trail riding with a little more finese, therefore outlasting some of the stock raptor parts.
Two, the YFZ is highly TUNABLE. You can adjust lots of things on the YFZ, including engine internals and suspension, on a far wider spectrum than the raptor. Not that I'm ******* raptors because I love mine, even in stock form. However, when I bought it the YFZ was not available. Had it been, I probably would've spent the extra money. And, if you check my page, you'll see what I've had to do to bring the raptor up to par after three years. And I haven't even gotten into the engine yet, though that is probably it's one saving grace. My vote is for the YFZ.

You can't go wrong with the Raptor. It has more than enough power in stock form. There are tons of aftermarket parts when and if you want to get the most out of it. It's more versatile than the YFZ, it's cheaper and it's more comfortable on all day rides.
