hey Travismi495 take the to bolts from the axle carrier and loosen them or remove them. Then take a screw driver and put it in the axle carrier hole (it is that piece of metal that is protruding out of the carrier so you can turn the carrier) I think it's toward you to tighten and away to loosen I know that it dosent sound like it would tighten the chain but it really works had the same question when I bought my 2002 lakota but anyway I hope I answered you question kind of hard to explain but if you need more help then post it ....

to make it easier to understand, push on the screwtriver to tighten and pull back on it to loosen and if the carrier dosnt want to move hit it with a hammer a few times

ATTENTION ATTENTION!!!!!!!!
Do not use a hammer at all. This causes possible injury and misuse. I have just bought a 1997 Lakota and you could imagine how tight the rear end was on my ATV. All it takes is a 5 dollar can of WD40. Let it soak a lil bit and simply take a screwdriver or bar that may or may not be with your atv and move rearend back and forth till completely free. Sorry if i offend anyone but may save someone from a aggrevated injury.
