Modded YFZ 450 vs Modded Banshee
#1
My buddy just got a killer banshee, Toomey pipes, reeds, K&N, head work, should be awesome when he gets it. I'm in the process of selling my Raptor, for a YFZ, and I'll put the good mods on it, pipe, intake, Hotcams. I know I don't hold a candle in sheer power, but how would these bikes compare for trail and sand riding? I'm even thinking of getting a Banshee too if its as hot as he's saying. I kow his last one was a little faster than my well-modded Raptor. It seems the Banshess are not as bad in the woods as Dirt Wheels wnats everyone to believe.

Well, I think this is Banshee vs YFZ post #1003, but it will be pretty close at the dunes anyway if he has head work done.
Stock for stock, and piped vs piped, the YFZ will dominate, but if you start adding headwork, and porting, the Banshee will start walking away (in the dunes anyways).
This has been my experience anyways at the dunes.

I can consistently beat them dragging, or going up hills (with the YFZ) until they get port work done. Then it is another story.
Like I said, this has been my personal experience on several occasions. Especially on the hills.

Now after all i heard about those super fast banshees you all are telling a yfz will outrun them? A stock yfz sucks powerwise (in my opinion please don't flame me). I am use to my raptors power. Yfz's give me no problems. I can still outrun one with a pipe cam mod k&n airfilter and jetkit. Plus the Rev box. Now don't go telling me that i'm full of **** because i'm not. I will try to down load some clips for all of u unbeleivers. A while back a raced a banshee with toomy pipes and jet kit. He beat the tar out of me. We went several runs and he still beat me. We switch bikes and the shee was still faster. So i know the shee will out run a yfz any day. Oh and i am a good ryder so don't tell me i suck. Now can you all remain calm and do not start attacking me. I am just stating what ive seen and felt.

I have yet to have a problem with raptors until they are highley modified same with banshees. If I lived closer I would have you bring your camera 660ryder. I have had a couple of banshees and 250rs with big bores in them and I can tell you that a they are not faster until you open them up or run alky. Thats in 300' anyway.

Ace - In my experience, it is not that Banshees perform so badly in the woods, it's more that they make you work your butt off clutching and shifting. You can run through a clutch in a hurry trying to keep the rpms up. They run hot on the trail cuz they only perform well at high rpms. And the stock suspension is crap. Ride them both for a day on the trails and you will like the 4-stroke better, I'm sure.
Stock Banshees aren't all that fast by today's standards. Stock 4-strokes will edge them out....like the 450R, YFZ450, Raptor, and Predator.
But once you start adding the aftermarket hp goodies, the Banshee really screams. 2-stroke Banshee responds better to piping, jetting, and engine work than most 4-strokes do. HOWEVER, you have to keep the Banshee tuned up or they are doggy, and keeping them tuned is a problem for most riders.
My Raptor with the Alba kit is Fast (I beat nearly every Raptor I race), but it would not stay with my piped and jetted Banshee.
I got tired of doing the wrenching and tuning, so I sold my Banshee. But it was the fastest in a straight out sand climb.
The rider really does make a difference, because the bikes aren't that far apart. And tires or gearing can also make the difference.

LIke was said before the rider makes all the difference. But from my experience in a drag race it all depends on the distance, unless you are running a full set up drag shee you wont take the raptor or yfz until you get to topend of third and you will really take over in forth. I have been waxed by both too but they were heavily modded and didnt want to tell anyone they were pumping nitrous into there system. They had a pretty sweet setup (wish I had pics). Trail riding is pretty acurate compaired to the newer four strokes, but after some good suspension work and a few motor mods the shee has the powerband to save you from that brutal workout. But for the last time a heavily modded shee will take anything out there that hasnt put a street bike motor or a snowmonile in it, and is still the king of the dunes.

Thanks for the honest answers guys, I don't regularly check these forums so don't flame me for not keeping up with the number of times this debate has (or will) come up. Anyway, I have always found my Rappy an awesome all-around machine, in all honesty it doesn't matter where we ride I'm usually in the top teir of riders, and can ALWAYS roost all over those two-wheelers. My Rappy is known to be the fastest around my area, but this modded Banshee is just incredible. Still teetering on the YFZ... anyone want to re-affirm my decision?
