No, it won't. The bearings are different. One uses a standard type, while the other uses a taper style. Simply changing the bearings will not work. You must also change the bearing carrier.

The best thing to do is change the swingarm, axle, and bearing carrier to the 1986 and newer version. The aftermarket has many more parts for it. However, keep in mind that the rear caliper mounts are different. So, if you decide to do this, go all out and do it right.

The bearings are precisely what make them different. One is a double-row style, while the other is a taper style.

If they are the same, why do the aftermarket companies offer one for the '85, and another for the '86? Look at these sites for reference:

http://www.nacsracing.com/htmlcatalo...iber-axles.htm

https://secure5.nexternal.com/shared...t=products.asp

Even BikeBandit.co lists different part #'s for the different years. (Although they have been discontinued). The '85 is 145642-001, while the'86 is 145643-001.

If you want to be absolutely certain, call the aftermarket companies and ask them.

I dont really know what your trying to say but heres the deal. 85 style had a smaller carrier which needed a smaller outside diameter bearing race than the later models. The axles are the SAME. 85 will fit with 86-89's and vise versa.
