Default Filming and Photography while riding.. what do you reccomend?

I have an olympus 1.3 digi cam that ive had for a couple of years, and since its value is only about 40 bucks used, it goes on all of the trips (still takes great pics)

Last year I purchased a samsung SCD-303 mini-dv camcorder, but found I never really used it that much. It is pretty small, but im wondering if it will be a hassle to haul both the camcorder and digicam. (I bought the optional memory stick for taking pictures on the camcorder, but they always look like junk for some reason)

Since we are going on our big dunes trip (st anthonies/Little sahara) I thought it would be nice to have some actual videos instead of just pictures.

I had a low end HP 2 meg camera that I used for a while. Just got a new Kodak 5 meg (like night and day). I'll take the HP out on the trails with us now, used to use a disposable camera. Personally, I think of how much I paid for the new camera and how much dirt, mud and other stuff that can happen to it out on a ride, and I'll keep the good one back at the camp. Depending on what size memory card I have in the old camera, I can take up to 8 minutes of video. That's just enough to catch it when somebody says "Hey, watch this."

the only problem with my digi cam is that it takes quicktime vids (low quality and no sound )

My nephew took him camcorder out on a ride. Had a bag to store it in, but still have to remember it's there when he sees a mud puddle.

I am considering selling this video cam, and maybe tryign to buy a new digi cam that takes good videos (with audio)

I am usually pretty careful with my gear. I have a bombardier handlebar bag, and then I put it inside a ziplock inside of that (and it has bubble wrap around the inside to protect it from jolts against the gas tank)

Hmm I could probably only get about 200 for my videocam, so dont know if its even worth the upgrade to a 200 dollar digital camera.

Just keep an eye out in the paper for sales. I wasn't planning on buying the new camera, but it was on sale for 250, half off the regular price. Some of the manufacturers have factory rebuilds with the same warranty as new. If you have luck like I do, when you really want something, it's never on sale or in stock.

JVC GR-D9OU digital camcorder that also takes still photos. The still photos are of poor quality. I wonder if most digital camcorders don't produce good still photos????????????

I find that a kodak one time disposable waterproof camera works best. It takes surprisingly clear pictures, and you don't have to worry about it getting wet. And even if you break it or lose it, your out $8 instead of hundreds.

The disposable do take good pictures. We take the waterproof ones with us when we go rafting. 1, they float, 2, I don't feel bad about losing 4 bucks on a camera. It's when the cooler goes and beer is lost, then there's a problem. The nice thing about the digi cameras is being able to zoom in, and when you crop and enlarge on the computer, they're not as grainy.
