94' sportsman is it worth it?
#1
Recently a co worker gave me his 94 sportsman. It has a melted piston from running with no water in the radiator. the quad is in fair shape. I am undecided what I want to do with it. I have done a few ground ups on quads and enjoy doing it. this is my first 4X4 project the others were all sport quads and minis. what I am wondering is how good of a mudder is this quad? I am looking for something to basicly use to go ride with my 4X4 quad friends. how reliable are they? with all that chain monstrosity they have. from what I have read up on them people say they are fast but I am not worried about that I can go fast on my sport...I am looking for an all out mudder that I can put together for a reasonably price. what other polaris model parts interchange if any? I looked on ebay there isnt much for the 2 smoke 400 sportsman. do scrambler parts work? thanks

THe 94 400 Sportsman isnt the best 400 due to the smaller ports. But if you can get a 95 up cylinder and tail port it.Get an Aaen Torquer pipe and silencer,Vforce reeds and a 38mm carb along with a good aggressive set of tires you will get eating most of the new 4x4s for lunch. The 3 chains are a pain until you learn a few tricks on maintaning them.As for reliability they are as reliale as any older quad just have to maintain them.Lots of greese fittings and be sure the counter balance oil stays clean. To anserw the Question about Scrambler parts they all interchange except flywheels, pipes and stators maybe a few other things. I had a 96 set up like this and it would climb trees.
