Default Help! Can I use an ATV to tow my boat 1/4 mile to the launch?

Hi- I need ATV advice! I'm looking to buy a multi-use ATV: I've just bought a 16' runabout powerboat that weighs 1500 lbs with the trailer. Instead of taking the car, can I use an ATV to tow it 1/4 mile to the launch? If possible, what would I need in an ATV to do this (power, capabilities)? We'd also like to use it to plow in the winter. Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks for your help!

It will have to go up/down medium grade hills (paved but rutted). The boat launch is fairly level, but muddy.

No shot IMHO.

I used to tow a comparable load at my cottage (Two Jetskis at 600 each plus alum. trailer). A large Quad will do it as far as flat hardpack, put get into some mud or sand or reasonable slope and you're done. Now depending on how steep you launch ramp and it's condition as well as you budget, you can do what I did and go with a Gator 6x4. But unless you have 10K for this venture, you're probably gonna want to stick to a car.

Try a larger ATV like a Brute-Force or Grizzly 660 with a beefy suspension.

Thanks for all the advice... sounds like the price of what we would need is pretty steep!

Hey clm77. The 600 Sportsman is rated for 1500 lbs towing capacity at MSRP $6999. But I have no experience towing that load with that quad. I have towed my dual Jetski trailer at at about 1500 lbs with my quad around my yard, but I don't think I would want to put it on a hill. My towing capacity is only 850 lbs.
I hope this helps you

I would reccomend the polaris scrambler 500, it can be used for work or play, its automatic, fast, and it has on off 4 wheel drive. You can buy a hitch for it to for towing.

Thats a pretty interesting recommendation......

The Polaris Scrambler is a short wheel base sport machine that is in no way applicable to towing.
It has no rated towing capacity or tongue weight.

Your recommendation is about as appropriete as a screen door on a submarine.

1600#'s on a slick boat ramp.

I picture a real WET sport quad. Might want to consider wearing a wetsuit and installing about a 6' snorkel before trying it.
