400 Sport Question
#1
I have a '96 400 that I just bought & rebuilt, I was riding yesterday when I jumped it, it started acting like it was hitting the reverse rev limiter, only worse. It wouldn't come off of idle at all.If I hit the overide switch, then it would act exactly like reverse without the overide. Is it possible the rev limiter is bad or is there something else I should look for??
What year is gen 3 and concentric drive,is this '96 considered to be either??
Thanks in advance for your help.

the 96 is a non-concentric model. i'd think about getting a chain roller if you plan on jumping it alot. assuming that it is jetted correctly, it sounds like a piece of trash in maybe the main jet or a dirty air filter. check all of the obvious things first. if you pull the carb to check the jets and there is no fuel in the bowl then it's not getting enough gas. pull the plug and make sure your not too lean. if it is piped, and you had to rebuild it upon purchase then chances are the last guy blew it up cause it wasn't jetted right. could possibly be an air leak, check the torque on the cylinder and head bolts.
these are just some ideas.

It isn't piped, I've been all through the carb, this is electrical. The overide button is controlling it so I don't think it's carb.It blew cause the last guy never rebuilt it. Where do I get a roller,I don't plan on jumping much, more trail riding.

look Here for a chain tensioner. if it is in fact the reverse cutout that is doing it then i'd look for the switch that controls it. others have bypassed the reverse overide all together so they don't have to mess with it. if there is a way to do a temp bypass just to check it out, someone on here would know how to do it.

Unlug the black wire coming from the revese limiter and that will disable the limiter.
