Default 98 spotsman 500 overheating

I was riding my 500 and it overheated, I let it cool down and it seemed fine. after a few minutes I lost all my lights and all the lights on my pod, I loose the lights about the time to fan should kick on but it doesn't. The wires from the fan to the Temp sending unit and the sending unit to the elecrical panel are melted. Took them off and replaced them, and runs fine until the fan should kick on and they melt again. Could this be a short in the fan?

Thanks for the help
