Has anybody else dropped from a 13 tooth front sprocket to a 12? and has anybody heard about the scrammy swithching into 4wd at high speeds? or is this just a rumor?[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

Iv'e got 2 500's and have 12 tooth sprockets on both for some time now. It hassn't hurt a thing. you have enough slippage in 4 wheeler drive it doesn't make any diference. sure did give me more out of the hole and I didn't lose a noticable amount on the top side. My son has a 13 tooth on his and I walked away from him, he used to beat me, , now he has the 12 on his too. give it a try you will be amazed at the difference.

 

I did it on mine, but went back to a 13 tooth. I ride mostly sand and figured it owuld not hurt. Here is what happened to me. I did gain a little out of the hole and even more top end. The down side was, it ate up my DID Xring chain and the sprocket was shot after two rides. Now it was a cheaper sprocket and I did not get it as a set with new chain and rear sprocket. So that may have helped it wear the stuff out, But the gains were not worth it for me when I had to replace everything, so I went back to stock.

 

Only an additional comment to what fishslab said. If you lower the front sprocket from 13 to 12 teeth, you are increasing the tension force in the chain by 1/12 or about 8%. Seems to me this might cause the chain to stretch faster. If you bump up the rear sprocket instead, you will not increase the full throttle tension in the chain.

hey i went from 13 to 11 worked great also went to 30 on the rear its a 3 to 1 conversion for every 1tooth you drop on the front is like going up three in the rear. i did it for more ground clerance ride alot of rocks
