It does'nt take a whole lot of money to be competitive,if you know people who are into it.If you want to run sprints or late model, now thats another topic.Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?We have a few dirt tracks here in wash.My boss started 2 yrs. ago with a hobbie stock. He had maybe $2500 in the car give or take, and was one of the top drivers in the class. This year he moved into the modifieds maybe $4000 invested in this one,and he's going to be up front again with a little more seat time.I think he picked up the rolling chassis for about $1500 I believe. If you can get connections you can get into it.It's all about knowing people, and sponsorships. My stepson starts tommorrow night with a pavement late model. He got lucky, If we can get him dialed in he has upwards of $17,000 for his program. His sponsor just likes racing, not many people like that for sat. nite short track racing. The next race you go to,go down in the pits afterwards or by a pit pass and go nose around you'll be surprised.

Racing is not cheep, the cost of the car is only the start. You if you want to start racing I would start with karts. You can learn alot of car control with it before you move up. Most of your top drivers today have started in karts and have reaced open wheeled dirt cars.

I was going to say, there is a lot more to it than just buying the car itself. I used to race karts for about 4-5 years, and it cost a lot of money to keep winning even tho the karts themselves were paid for.

kartmann, I see your from Indiana, I raced at Lawrenceburg and Osgood Indiana. You been there? Did you do dirt or pavement?
Wow, you was one of the fancy setup's that spent 10 g's a year huh? I didn't spend nearly that much, I was the guy(kid actually) who always came out of the bed of a pick-up. That's the reason a lot of guys with big set up didn't like me to well, they looked like Nascar rolling in and I could still win occasionally with my little set up. LOL That wasn't you was it? They would get so hot and bothered that sometimes they would put money up to say I was cheating, so we tore down my engine and laughed.
