Default Help me diagnose; starter or battery problem?

I have a 01 Scrammy. It sat outside for 2 yrs, but the last 2 yrs it has been garaged. I've used it quite a bit this winter for plowing snow, but never had any problems.

I went out to get it ready for a trip this weekend and tried to fire it up (hasn't been started in 2 mths). I turned the key and it slowly cranked over, then I could hear the starter spinning (it wasn't making contact with the fly-wheel). I got it started with one crank on the recoil starter... ran it for 5 or so minutes, flicked the lights on and off, then shut it off. I immediatly tried to start it via the key and it cranked it right up like there was nothing wrong.

This morning I went out and tried it again. Same thing, slowely turned over 2 times, then the starter started freely spinning again.

Am I looking at a starter or battery problem? I need to get this thing working by Thursday so I can make it for the trip. Thanks guys!!!

Battery...............the starter is free-wheeling because there is not enought power to engage it out to the flywheel, but they will still try to spin.

Battery...get it load tested, and youll know for sure. Napa or autozone or most auto parts stores will do the load test for free.

buy a new battery they are like 40 bucks and you probably havent replplaced it in a few years. factory reccomendations are a new battery every year I belive, not that you need to do that.
