Hey you big bore Blaster guys
#1
I know this subject is bantered about in here but I'm looking for some hands-on experience from the guys who own Blasters with the various 240 kits installed.
I have one that my son rides, and have considered doing a make over. It has an FMF pipe, stock bore, ported and head mods and runs pretty darn well, but our piped Z400 embarrasses it.
Anybody have the Vito's 240 kit with the "extra ports"?
I know we have a couple of Hollywood dirt guys here too. Are you running the regular 240 or that CR cylinder set up?
What I'm looking at is with a 240 kit and some porting, a larger volume pipe and good carb, will this thing really run or just be a little bit faster Blaster? I know it ain't gonna keep with my YFZ but I like my kid being on a lightweight machine and right now he's bored to death with it. If I am going to spend $1200 and just run like a stock 400EX, well, I'll buy a 400EX.
Thanks in advance,
Shady

I have a 2004 yamaha blaster with toomey b1 pipe and silencer, jet kit, k&n air filter, vitos +4 degree key, 14,39 sprokets razr tires, boyesen pro series reeds, and reed spacer, and i can easly outrun 300ex's warriors, and can outrun 400exs, and z400s, the toomey b1 pipe kit it alot better then fmf, and the vitos degree key improves take off alot, i would get a 4mm stroker and the vitos 240 clynder kit, and sproket for more top end

Built right the 240 can be very competitive. The vito's kit however is un-ported and uses a super stock piston kit which modifys the port timing to make it seem ported. The 12 port design is good, but could be built upon alot more with proper porting.
I run a longrod 240 set-up from Hollywood Dirt. Before the longrod I had just a 240 ported with a similar design as to whats in my profile. If your stepping up to a 240, I strongly suggest the use of a larger carb. The pwk 33mm, 34pj, or 35 air stryker are all good choices, but depending on your style of riding each offers it's own. I use a cut down FMF and don't have any complaints, however for max peformance the CPI big bore pipe is a good choice.
It can be made to be very quick, I was beating stock 400ex's before I even went bigbore, now a stock 400 (four stroke) makes me laugh. If you gear it right you can easily pull off 70mph, or in that area depending on gears, tire size, and even the pipe/carb combo.
Long story short, don't let people sell you on the idea blasters suck. For 1200 bucks you can easily be spanking the ex's and z400's.
