Just wondering what the "hub fluid" for 4 wheel drive Polaris' is. The green stuff. And also what is the purple transmission stuff my Scrambler takes? Just synthetic ATF? Is there better stuff to use besides the Polaris brand? I use Mobil 1 0-40 for the engine.

The motor oil is the only fluid I would substitute instead of using Polaris. I use the Amsoil Four Stroke 0W-40. As far as the others, stick to Polaris!

The transmission is chaincase lube. I use Amsoil there as well. Haven't touched my front hubs yet.

Wow really? I've changed it like 3-4 times already. I've gotten it to where its still green after i've gone riding all day. If the fluid gets dirty, i'll change it, especially on these little toys where they hold so little fluid.

When my 4wd stops working, I'll change the hub fluid.

Except for the Gent that told you the ATF for hub fluid basically the answer is none of these guys know what the stuff really is. As usual you've got the amsoil guys but that is a fad across the mechanical world.

I'm going to be sending some samples off to the lab shortly to find out for sure. Each lube has a rating it must meet so once we know the ratings we can stop paying out the *** for brand stuff.

If Amsoil is a "fad", why have they been successful for over 30 years? Their products have been tested many times over the years by independent labs and they have always performed very well. And they are less expensive than the oem brand sythetics which are just contracted out to the lowest bidder. If you don't believe in Amsoil, use Mobil 1. Another excellent product. But the oem stuff is the biggest rip-off.
