Default How far off are the Gas gagues

I know that my sled gas gague is not very accurate,my question is,how bad are the gas gagues on the 4 wheelers,,,the bike I have is a 03 auto 500 4wd. It seems to be going down pretty fast, but looks like a lot of gas in tank yet.

My 650 has a 6.5 gal tank. When the guage shows 1/2 it only takes 2 gal to top up. So I'd say my guage errors on the side of extreme caution.

I have a 2004 650. My gas gauge was way off when I bought it. The dealer took it apart and adjusted it. It is great now and seems to be reasonably accurate.

Mine said 1/8 left of 6.5, I put in 3.75 gallons. So yeh, it's pretty far off on mine too.

So far off that I don't even use mine. I just go by how many miles I have traveled.

When the last bar on mine starts flashing I have a half of a tank left.

mine seems to be accurate because once it gets to about a half a centimeter from the start, i have to put it in reserve. and it runs out of gas as soon as it hits empty. so,mine is good i guess.

When the guage says empty - its pretty close to that.

Fuel managenent has many facets depending on the method in which it is used -

Take airplanes for example, Having to much fuel is only a problem when your on fire. Having to little is ALWAYS a problem.

I thought that's why they have a reserve. So when it stops running in the normal "On" position, you have some gas to get you to your spare fuel. Or as WhoDat says "Fuel managenent has many facets depending on the method in which it is used - " and I watch how many miles I've gone and refill long before I'm even close to out.
