92 trailboss - cooked motor
#1
I have a 1992 trailboss 2x4 that I just cooked the motor on. I'm not sure
if the oil pump failed or if I had water in the gas, either way its done. The bike itself
is in awesome shape, I bought it from some old couple that used it basically like you would
use a golf cart, they only drove it around the cottage and on dirt roads in the summers. The bike is worth saving and I am looking at either rebuilding the motor or buying a used one, I was just wondering
if I could use one of the 300 motors from the 4x4's made at the same time. Both bikes are
the same size, they are both air cooled, I was wondering if this is an easy swap?
Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

If you are going to rebuild it, DO NOT put a polaris piston back in it. Save yourself a bunch of troubles and put in a wiseco piston. The polaris pistons are notorious for chipping at the skirt and then gernading your motor. Both top end and bottom end. If you want an experts advice call Rick Ritter at Rcr. He will shoot straight from the hip and not give you any bull.

I will have to check on the Wiseco piston, maybe they have gotten a lot better recently. The reason
I was asking about the 300 engine was basically the same as almost every question on these forums. More power. Also, you have more options if your selection of used motors includes two different sizes. I just don't know if they used different carbs or not, I can't really see the 300 having a
bigger carb than the 250 but you never know.
