Default Jetting for Modified 450R

I have a 05 TRX 450 R with the HRC kit, K&N and Rossier Pipe. I just had the pipe put on and it seems like it didn't help the bike any. I was hopping for some more performance and I think it is actually worse than with just the HRC kit. It still has the HRC kit 181 jets. I put on the K&N and pipe at the same time but didn't do a jet change. Any suggestions to get the most out of my motor? I am sure my jet is too small but I don't want to do the trial and error thing. Anyone out there with this setup already done some tuning that can help me out?

It could be the jets or the pipe just isnt putting out any more power.

I e-mailed Rossier Engineering, the makers of my pipe. They went as far as to tell me exactly what they used for their alltitude. I need a 185 jetting instead of 181, and a 50 pilot verse the 45 stock. I have already ordered the parts and I am hopping I can get them in this saturday so I can ride. That is the setting for 400- 800 feet above sea level on the dino. I am pretty close to the same altitude so I am hopping this will give me my snappyness back. I may be running a little fat but I can live with that better than lean.

With the mods you have added the pipe will give you only alittle bump if any. If the bike were stock and then you added the pipe you would notice a big difference. All the jetting is going to do is make sure you dont sieze the motor. Good luck

I have to say not siezing the motor is a good thing. It is back firing a little now so it is running lean. I would be happy to just have the snappyness back. That is my main concern right now. Working on some safety things like skid plates and handelbar risers are next. Then head work. Whenever I do blow the motor I have a 500cc inch big bore kit in mind to add a little more umph. I just don't want to raise compression over 10/1 so I can retain some reliability.

My dealer and the Rossier wedsite said that there should be about a five horse difference. I am sure I will notice that. The jets should be in soon so we will see what kind of difference that will make. I will give my seat of the pants dino run probably this saturday if I get the jet and pilot in.

Some of the claims for horsepower ratings are way off with some of these manufactuers. Also the horsepower at the rear wheels is a lot different than the actual horsepower the engine makes. Im not trying to say the pipe is not worth adding but, without the proper air intake it may not make that big of a difference. I think you are going to have to play around with it a little because a pipe on quad with a powerful engine that is choked up should benefit from being able to breath.

yep, without opening up the airbox your losing almost all benefit of adding that pipe to the 450r

I am running the HRC airbox lid which is nothing more than a splash guard. I have a K&N on it also. Besides these two what else should or could be done?

I would start with the recomendation you got from Rossier. Jets are cheap and with adding those mods listed you should rejet anyway. Anytime you change the way the engine gets air rejetting is a must. I don't know for sure but, the slip on may not be adding any power over the stock pipe with the HRC insert.
