Honda Rn4 vs Castrol and other blends
#1
My friend is always using Castrol in his 350 Warrior, and laughs everytime i pay a little extra for Honda oil.Only because i read in owners manual that anything but honda oil will hurt the transmission because of some additive needed by it to function properly.Waht do you think guys is Honda/Yamaha just pushing their overpriced oil or can you just put any ole brand in your crankcase.
Thanks

We have gone over this oil thing a thousand times. See this post, specifically about the Rancher------- http://forums.atvconnection.com/mess...did/444212.cfm
What is Rn4??? There is a Honda GN4 (dino), HP4 (synth blend), and HP4M (synth blend with moly). Pick a motorcycle specific oil that is API SG/JASO MA (the JASO MA means it is fine for your transmission). Given that, you can run anything: dino, blend, or full synthetic (but not HP4M). (Note that Honda oils and Yamalube are now API SJ and no longer API SG, so I have stopped using them!) http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm
By no means are all oils created equal! I personally like the ester synthetics (Maxima Extra for the Rancher). THE SYNTHETICS ARE MORE EXPENSIVE BECAUSE THEY ARE DESIGNER LUBRICANTS, NOT JUST SOMETHING THAT GOT PUMPED OUT OF THE GROUND! Why whine about spending a couple of dollars more on a top of the line oil??? Your bike cost you a bundle, isn't it worth it??? http://www.maximausa.com/technical/l...beNews2002.pdf
Which Castrol is he using? One of the car oils?
