1987 350 honda 4x4

1987 Honda fourtrax 350cc 4x4. Starts excellent, idles well when started. Limited hours on bike. Overall runs very well. BUT! Periodically when shifting into 1st or reverse from neutral the bike stalls. I put it into neutral, the N light comes on and the bike starts immediatly. This also occurs when quading in any gear, just stalls and starts in N again. It may occur a few times, I increase the idle speed in neutral for 30 sec, and it kicks into gear no trouble. Recent carb job - less frequency in stalling, recent compression at 95. Is this electrical or fuel related????

ahh, the early ancestor of the rancher.....
If when it stalls it's like hitting the kill switch, it sounds like it's an electrical issue. I would check the wiring around the coil first, make sure it isnt loose or broken wires or anything, then check the rest of the wiring. I dont know if that bike uses an ICM (ignition control module) or not, but also check the pulse-generator.
If it seems to buck and chug and do all sorts of wierd things, then it's probably a fuel problem.
