96 Sportsman..Lots of questions
#1
Yo fellas...just purchased a 96 Sportsman 500 fixer and I need to give it some lovin. Dealer said it needed CV and u-joints. Sounded a little rough when I drove it. First thing I checked was the cahin case fluid level. It was barely touching the dipstick. Will change out tomorrow and run it again....after I fix the hole in the rear brake line. I'll probably buy some tubing and a bender and do it myself figuring it wilol be cheaper. Not sure if the dealer carries those items?? Minimal movement in the front and rear inner and outer joints....maybe a millimeter or 2. How do I know if they are bad? How do I get them apart? Need new boots too.
thx

oh..and I fogot to ask...the rear brake rotor seems loose on the spline.....looks like there is supposed to be a pin maybe or something to hold it in place other than the caliber? Also when i was filling the master cylinder (only one for fornt and rear brakes) I noticed there was a rubber one way washer type deal floatnig loose...is it supposed to be that way?

First, get a service manual if your gonna be doing this work yourself. It has a lot of useful info in it. The boots on the front are easy to replace. If you can bend the brake lines yourself, I would do that. Im sure it will save you a lot of money. Im not sure about the master cylindar thing. Good luck to you and your repairs, I have done many to my 96 and still have more to go
