Checking oil pump?
#1
Just finish putting together my rebuilt 88 trail boss 250.. and I don't want to burn the thing up.... how the heck do you make sure that it is pumping oil??
I started it for about 3 min today, Whiel it was idling I held the oil pump at full bore trying to get oil through the system (this was after I bled it as well)
any ideas??

First ! Use a 40:1 gas & oil mixture while you are trouble shooting. Bleed the pump, and remove the oil line at the engine, run engine above idle with pump control fully open and see if oil is coming from the line. If no oil check pump further. If you have oil coming from the line check the oil check valve where the pump outlet line connects from the engine. The way I check the check valve is to disconnect the oil line at the tank and run the engine as discribed above and see if the oil level in the tank line drops. if so the injector system is working. BUT! The catch is, is the pump pumping enough oil? I am refurbishing a 1988 Trail Boss 250 4X4 that has not been used in years, but all bushings, bearings, sprockets and chains shows no wear, it has been used very little, so I am hoping for a good old ATV when it is finished. See pictures.

the pump was working perfectly before I took the motor apart I just want to make sure it is still working..
I am running 40:1 in it until I know for sure.. I figure to much oil is better then not enough!
I will pull the tube off the motor and see if oil comes out when it is running.. thanks!
