Sportsman Plague

A friend of mine and I are having a problem with our sportsman. They will start up and idle fine, no problems there. However, once you hit the gas it breaks downs and acts like its hitting the rev limiter. You can't even really get it above idle without the engine running rough. We tried cleaning the carb and checking the switches, but found nothing wrong. Has anyone else experienced this? And where should we start looking next? We really appreciate the help.

also, check the throttle sensor. its job is to cut power if the throttle gets stuck, sometimes it will go bad. this happened to a person in or riding group. it would fart, spit, and sputter once it got to a certain RPM.

If none of the above work try lifting the "C" clip on the needle jet to the top notch which drops the needle for a leaner mixture. Most likely they started working bad in the warmer weather and are running too rich. If this works you might think about dropping a main jet size or two....

I had the same thing happen to my 02-700 and it turned out to be the rubber boot the one between the carp and head.It had a small split in it.So when i hit the gas it would let in air and the quad would fall on its face and back fire.

I had the same thing happen to me on a 1999 Sporstman 335.
Try holding the reverse overide in and rev the motor, if it revs replace overide circuit.

This could be a BIG problem if it were to suck in sand and dirt!!!
I notified Polaris, i think they had a lot of bad parts in '02.
ALL YOU OTHER SPORTSMAN TWIN OWNERS SHOULD CHECK THIS.
