Tire Repair Kits
#1
Hello,
I have a 05 Sportsman 800 and apparently run something over I shouldn't have and punctured a tire. The left rear tire to be exact. I went to a local convenience store and they had a cheap repair kit that came with the rubber cement, 3 plugs and a plug tool. I put 2 plugs in the hole in my tire and it sealed it up for now. I will find out just how well when I ride it some. I want to buy a good repair kit to carry with me so if I get a flat on a trail or wherever... I will be able to fix it and not worry if the repair or plug will hold. What kit would be good to get? Is there a big difference in kits or brands, etc? I looked on ebay and on the web here and there are a ton of different kits you can buy. Any help or ideas here is appreciated. Oh yeah.. I am new to this board and have found the discussions here very informative.
Thanks,
Rob

At WalMart and other stores you can get a foot powered pump for about $5.00 and tubless tire repair kits are inexpensive and reliable. I repaired a tire on my Ford 150 XLT, 5 years ago and it is still good. I had a 1/4 inch rod stuck in my tire, pulled it out and put 2 repair strips in the tire. Still good.

the others had good advice too, and my advice it spend the money for 4 bottles of slime, they are about $8 a bottle at Walmart, put one bottle in each tire and these help you prevent the flats. it is not a guarantee that you won't get one, but is a big help for smaller holes. but do get the kits and a 12volt compressor to carry with you.
i carry a 12volt comp. and plugs with me all the time, plus my tires full of slime

i strongly recommend using 'slime' you can get it at any hardware type store, Slime
i have it in my atv tires as well as trailer tires, ive seen this stuff in action clogging up holes in my buddies quad that would've ruined our riding day, but it sealed quick and we never missed a beat, didnt even notice he had gotten a puncture till we had stopped for a break and just happend to notice it..

Attn: 800 and 500le owners: The alum rims (POL) leave little room for a pump on the stem. I have always carried a slim in line bike pump and tire repair kit. My pump will NOT fit over the stem. Lucky I read some members complaining about flats on the new PXT and I threw a can of fix-a flat in the huge storage container in the rear of the new rigs. It saved me from beating the hell out of the rim. I'd bring one with you always for $5 bucks. My 2c
