Does anyone make a handlebar mount? I am tired of taking mine out of my pack to mark waypoints.

I have been using my garmin eTrex for some time now, works great and is very simple. For trail and dune ridding you don't need anything fancy. GPS units that have city maps are useless for where I ride. I have all the major land marks for the dunes I ride in preprogrammed in the gps. I also mark my camp site. Works great when you need the fastest way back to camp or to fine camp when it is pitch black out and every camp looks the same!

Some key points when looking for a GPS unit for your quad:
Waterproof
Shock resistant
Small size
Back light for night ridding

I got my mount from Innovative Design Concepts, their website hasn't been updated in years so you may want to call to see what they offer. I originally used the mount on my sand rail but now have it mounted to the handlebars. Checkout my web page for pics

I boguht some stuff from GPS City, not too bad of an experience. Be sure and get the RAM mount - it works well. Don't buy the Garmin GPS12 (I have this model) it is a good unit, but not well suited for ATV riding. The eTrex is a very good model for duning etc. There are several eTrex models available and you can pick the one in your budget.

A GPS would probably take a thrashin on a quad. Thats why i'm a little scared to buy a high class 1. The GPS would come handy for my work 2. I'm always out of town and in the middle of nowheres. A nice, clear map is alwayz nice to have.

I have the TrailTech speedo rite now... but i don't like it much although. I hear everyone alwayz clockin their quad with a GPS, very accurate.

Yeah, the do take a beating - that is why you get the eTrex - everyone has one and they last. Even my GPS12, when setup correctly has lasted several years. If I was to replace my GPS 12 when it breaks - right now I'd get an eTrex, probably the Legend version.

I bought the Garmin 60CS last November. Used it at Glamis and was awesome. Nice being able to find all the big hills.

I got mine through REI

REI Link

If you're a member you get a rebate at the end of the year. I used my rebate and the 20% off coupon that came with it to buy the US Maps software. I've used it a couple times for work and have it all set-up to get me to St. Anthony when I leave tomorrow night!

I got a handlebar mount for my bicycle. Figured it was less expensive to get a handlebar mount than to by a separate milage computer for the bike. It's pretty cool. . . shows max speed, elevation and the city maps.

Cool thing about riding at Glamis with it on is I uploaded the breadcrumbs to the Mapsource software and could see where I was going around in a bowl in the dunes. . . a bunch of dots in a circle. . . pretty cool. I could then actually mark those spots as way-points to go back to. Always nice to hit a good bowl. Also used it on the ride from Glamis to Gordon's well and then to Mexico.

At this point, I've just put the GPS in a small towel with the antenna out only and in one of the bottle holders of the fanny pack. Would be nice to be able to see it while riding but, I've heard the vibration of the bike could be hard on the circuitry. Much less vibration on my fanny-pack.

I signed up for the class at REI to teach me how to use the GPS but, by the end of the first weekend playing with it I called and cancelled my reservation at the class. If you've got the time to devote to it and you can figure out how to program a VCR you will probably be fine.
